Organized transport systems in Brazil are trying to recover from an accumulated loss of US$ 4.8 billion (25.7 billion reais) between March 2020 and February 2022, due to Covid-19. The numbers are from a recent study by the National Association of Urban Transport Transport Companies (NTU) in Brazil.
From August 2021 to February 2022, there was a recovery in passenger demand (between 60% and 70%), driven by the advance of vaccination and relaxation of measures to restrict the movement of people, with supply reaching up to 84% of the operational schedule before the pandemic, according to the same study.
Faced with a still uncertain recovery scenario, affected by a recent wave of high inflation and the lack of a clear public policy for the economic recovery of public transport sector, what are the alternative paths followed by public transport operators in Brazil to make a forecast of costs, increasing the efficiency of the operation and offering a quality service to overcome a challenging scenario for the urban public transport sector?
